Cold-Case Detective Makes Case for Risen Christ

At a Truth for a New Generation conference in Greensboro, North Carolina, former atheists J. Warner Wallace and Josh McDowell shared how their investigations led them to affirm the resurrection of Jesus Christ as historical fact. Wallace, a seasoned cold-case detective, applied forensic principles to the gospel accounts, arguing that Jesus’ death was certain. He cited physical evidence described in Scripture, including the separation of blood and water, explaining, “He was either so clever that he included some little-known biological fact that nobody would discover for 1800 years or he just reported what he saw.”

McDowell, once seeking to disprove Christianity, examined competing theories and found them lacking. He detailed the physical impossibility of Jesus surviving crucifixion and escaping the tomb, as well as the unlikelihood of the disciples stealing the body under heavy guard. Both men also rejected hallucination theories, noting the consistency of multiple eyewitness accounts.

They emphasized that the resurrection transformed skeptics, including Paul and James, and led early believers to risk persecution, strengthening the historical case for Christ’s victory over death.
