An Iranian Christian convert has reportedly been sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison after authorities accused her of national security offenses linked to possessing Christian materials. According to Article18, security agents arrested Marzban at her home in Tehran in January, confiscating her Bible and other Christian literature before transferring her to a Ministry of Intelligence detention facility.
During interrogations, officials allegedly pressured Marzban to confess that her Bible and Christian books were used for evangelism. She denied the accusations and maintained that the materials were for personal use. Judge Iman Afshari, who has been sanctioned by the European Union over harsh rulings against dissidents and religious minorities, reportedly issued the sentence.
Marzban previously spent two months in Evin Prison in 2024 after being convicted of spreading propaganda against the regime. Human rights advocates say Iranian authorities continue targeting Christian converts with arrests and prison sentences tied to national security claims.
Recent reports also noted that five Iranian Christians received a combined 50-year sentence related to prayer meetings, baptisms, and Bible distribution activities.
