As the new year begins, a growing number of Americans are committing to read the entire Bible in 2026, choosing spiritual renewal over typical resolutions like dieting or fitness. Though only an estimated 13-20% of Americans have ever completed this goal, that number is expected to rise due to a surge in interest and Bible sales, which rose 11% in 2025, exceeding 18 million copies.
According to Dr. Corné Bekker, Dean of Divinity at Regent University, this trend reflects a deep cultural hunger. “I do think increasingly, our world is falling apart. The foundations of our society are being eroded at a record speed—and people are longing for that which is eternally true, that which is ancient, that which is unchanging,” said Dr. Bekker.
Churches like Brentwood Baptist in Tennessee are embracing year-long Bible reading plans, helping thousands grow in daily engagement with Scripture. A study from the Center for Bible Engagement found that reading the Bible four or more times a week is the greatest predictor of spiritual growth.
