An Israeli soldier named Yarin nearly lost his life after a terrorist intentionally ran him over while he was on patrol along Highway 60. Paramedic Yair Schussheim of MAGEN DAVID ADOM was first on the scene and described the critical moment, saying, “When I first saw him, he was unconscious, and there was a lot of blood on his face and chest. I did not think he would survive.” Yarin suffered multiple injuries, including brain trauma, internal bleeding, and a nearly severed leg. Schussheim acted quickly, loading him into a Mobile Intensive Care Unit and telling the driver, “Floor the gas! Do not stop!”
Schussheim and his team performed emergency interventions en route to the hospital, which trauma surgeon Dr. Miklosh Bala later said saved Yarin’s life. Yarin eventually recovered after months of intensive therapy. Reflecting on the journey, he said of his rescuer, “Yair is not just the paramedic who saved my life. He is like my brother. I did not expect a connection like this.”
