A federal lawsuit filed this week alleges that The Mission Church of Carlsbad and The Christian & Jewish Alliance of San Diego have faced repeated harassment for hosting pro-Israel events and supporting the Jewish community. The complaint, filed by First Liberty Institute and Jones Day, describes a “campaign of disruption and harassment” that has interfered with multiple worship services and events.
“We at The Mission Church simply want to be able to worship and support our local Jewish community without fear or intimidation,” said Pastor JC Cooper. “It’s of the utmost importance that our congregation feels safe in our house of worship.”
The lawsuit documents three major disruptions, including one during a March 19 worship event attended by 400 people. Protesters shouted through bullhorns, displayed graphic signs, and physically resisted removal. The church cites violations of the FACE Act, which protects religious gatherings.
The complaint also highlights that CODEPINK members were among the disruptors and notes similar anti-Israel protests have surged nationwide since the October 7 Hamas attack.
