Hundreds of participants gathered at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., for “America Reads the Bible,” a weeklong event dedicated to the continuous public reading of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation. Nearly 500 individuals—including pastors, elected officials, authors, and actors—each read brief passages, collectively completing the entire Bible.
Organizer Bunni Pounds described the scale of the effort, noting participation from ministry leaders and national figures. President Donald Trump contributed by reading 2 Chronicles 7:14, stating, “If my people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
The event also featured House Speaker Mike Johnson and actress Candace Cameron Bure, among others. Organizers emphasized that the gathering serves as both a spiritual experience and a reminder of the Bible’s historic role in American life. Timed ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary, participants highlighted Scripture as foundational to the country’s heritage and a guide for reflection and renewal. Watch the livestream here.
