Dr. Tony Evans, founder of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship (OCBF) in Dallas, publicly apologized to his congregation and family on Sunday following the completion of a restoration process after stepping down from leadership in June 2024 due to an undisclosed sin.
“To the flock, to the congregation, for the consternation I may have caused you with questions and wondering and uncertainty, I’m sorry,” Evans said. “I apologize sincerely for any instability that this season has caused you because you are my treasure.”
Although the nature of the sin was not disclosed, Evans stated, “While I have committed no crime, I did not use righteous judgment in my actions.” The church’s elder board confirmed he fully submitted to a 12-month restoration process, which included outside counseling, pastoral mentoring, and signs of “genuine repentance and godly sorrow.”
While Evans will not return to staff or leadership at OCBF, his son, Jonathan Evans, has been appointed an elder and is expected to become lead pastor.
More details will be shared at the upcoming “Vision Sunday” on October 12.
