Christian worship artist Cory Asbury has shared that he spent five years “running” from his faith before returning to Christian ministry following what he described as a pivotal conversation with fellow artist Forrest Frank.
In a social media post, Asbury said his departure began after releasing his worship project Homecoming, which he described as the final ministry work he completed before stepping away. He acknowledged that although he knew “where home was,” he intentionally chose to leave.
Asbury said a “brotherly” rebuke from Forrest Frank became a turning point in his spiritual return. He referenced Proverbs 27:6 while describing the exchange. Frank, who was named Artist of the Year at the 56th GMA Dove Awards in 2025, has not publicly commented on the account.
Reflecting on his years away from faith, Asbury compared his experience to the biblical prodigal son, writing, “This running—and His pursuit of my heart—was much more of a true ‘prodigal son’ story than the one that originally birthed Reckless Love.”
He concluded his message by stating, “I am the one. Thank you, Jesus.”
