Christian Preacher Murdered in Uganda Attack

Evangelist Alfred Kitenga was killed in Kampala, Uganda, on April 9 after preaching at a gospel event in the Namungoona area, according to Morning Star News. Kitenga and his wife, Anna Grace Nabirye, were approached by four men posing as motorcycle taxi drivers who claimed to be Christians returning from the same event. The men offered the couple a free ride home.

Nabirye said, “We believed them because they said they were fellow believers who had listened to the message.” The drivers later suggested taking an alternate route because of traffic congestion. Nabirye became suspicious after hearing one of the men speaking on the phone in an unfamiliar language.

Three additional men reportedly joined the group before the attackers severely beat the couple and fatally stabbed Kitenga. Nabirye was left alive near her home and later informed church leaders, who discovered Kitenga’s body and contacted police.

Open Doors reports that although most Ugandans identify as Christians, Islamic extremists continue to target believers, particularly converts from Islam, who often face violence, social rejection, and persecution.
