Cuban Christians Bring Hope Amid Growing Crisis

Cuba is facing a deepening humanitarian and economic crisis, according to Christian leaders and ministry workers serving on the island. Moisés Pérez Padrón, director of Trans World Radio’s office in Cuba, said the conditions are the worst he has seen in his lifetime. “The streets are full of garbage. You see children and elderly people searching for food or something they can sell among the trash,” he said. “Power outages last more than 12 hours a day, and families are destroying furniture in their homes just to use the wood for cooking.”

Pérez Padrón, who also serves as vice rector at Havana Baptist Theological Seminary and copastor of Salem Baptist Church, produces a daily devotional called Messages of Faith and Hope, encouraging listeners to trust in Christ during the crisis. “Let us build on the solid rock,” he said. “Let us trust in Christ and his Word, not in political agreements or false religions, but in him.”

The crisis has been worsened by hurricanes, fuel shortages, disease outbreaks, and a mass exodus of young people. Christian ministries and churches have responded by providing humanitarian aid, food, and spiritual support to struggling communities across the country.
