I Can Only Imagine 2 Continues Story of Faith

Nine years after I Can Only Imagine became a box-office success, earning more than $83 million domestically, the sequel continued the story of MercyMe singer Bart Millard, portraying him as a father. Millard told CBN News that both “Imagine” and “Even If” were born from personal hardship, explaining, “‘Imagine’ and ‘Even If’ were written out of some difficult seasons of my life. And not all songs are written that way, but my therapy is working issues out through my song.”

John Michael Finley reprised his role as Millard, highlighting the film’s focus on generational struggles and redemption. Singer Tim Timmons, who co-wrote “Even If” and has lived with incurable cancer since 2001, reflected on his journey, saying, “There’s still tumors on my liver wearing out my heart, they say. But I was given five years to live 25 years ago and I … today, I woke up again.”

I Can Only Imagine 2 opened nationwide February 20.
