Franklin Graham preached the Gospel in Ushuaia, Argentina, known as the world’s southernmost city, during a two-night outreach called “Esperanza Ushuaia.” The event was held at the José “Cochocho” Vargas Stadium in the city often referred to as the “city at the end of the world,” located about 650 miles from Antarctica. Ushuaia reportedly has the highest suicide rate in Argentina, and the theme of the outreach centered on hope.
Addressing thousands in attendance, Graham asked, “Are you running out of hope?” He preached from Mark 10, recounting the story of Bartimaeus. “Bartimaeus had no hope,” Graham said. “He thought nobody could help him. There’s nothing he could do but sit on the side of the road … But he cried out to Jesus.”
He told the crowd, “In the same way, there’s nothing you can do to get rid of your sins. You cannot save yourself. Will you come to Christ tonight?” According to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, hundreds repented and placed their faith in Jesus Christ during the outreach.
