Bethel Church Breaks Silence on Shawn Bolz Investigation

Bethel Church Breaks Silence on Shawn Bolz Investigation

Bethel Church leaders in Redding, California, issued a public statement after an investigation accused minister Shawn Bolz of fraudulent prophetic practices and sexual misconduct connected to the church. Bill Johnson, Kris Vallotton, Dann Farrelly, and Danny Silk acknowledged failures in handling allegations from a former team member and evidence that Bolz used social media to gather information for false words of knowledge. They wrote, “We take responsibility for the fact that we did not properly and fully bring discipline, closure, or clear and timely communication regarding the gravity of our concerns with Shawn Bolz.”

The statement followed a nearly six-hour video by apologist Mike Winger presenting evidence of unethical prophetic methods and long-term misconduct. Winger said Bethel leadership knew of the accusations and criticized their public support of Bolz. Leaked texts showed Vallotton distanced Bolz in 2020 without informing the church, a decision he later called wrong.

Bethel leaders said they no longer endorse Bolz, urged others to do the same, announced new accountability measures, and invited affected individuals to come forward. Bolz has not responded and is on sabbatical.
