Christian leaders across Australia are calling for urgent prayer following a mass shooting at a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach. Thousands had gathered when gunfire erupted, leaving eleven people confirmed dead and dozens injured, including a child and a police officer. Authorities believe one suspected attacker is deceased, while others are still being sought by law enforcement.
Video footage from the scene shows crowds fleeing across the sand as gunshots continued to ring out.
The Anglican Archbishop of Sydney, Kanishka Raffel, condemned the violence and called for national prayer. He stated, “Antisemitism has no place in Australian society.” He also posted on X: “Please join me in praying urgently for the injured and the families of victims of the shooting at Bondi Beach. Pray for the safety of the Jewish community and residents of Bondi. Pray for the police and medical teams in their work. Lord have mercy.”
Faith writer Margaret Joseph shared Psalm 23: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me.”
