Texas Enacts Law to Protect Women’s Spaces Based on Biological Sex

Texas has taken a bold stand to protect the privacy and safety of women and girls by enacting the Texas Women’s Privacy Act. Signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott, Senate Bill 8 mandates that all multiple-occupancy restrooms and changing areas in government buildings be restricted based on biological sex, not self-identified gender.

The law clearly defines sex as “an individual’s biological sex, either male or female,” and includes protections in correctional facilities and family violence shelters. Men will no longer be allowed in spaces designated for women, including shelters, unless they are minors accompanied by their mother.

Violations of the law will carry steep fines, $25,000 for the first offense and $125,000 for subsequent ones.

This legislation, passed overwhelmingly by Republican lawmakers, reflects a growing movement to resist the cultural push to redefine gender. Texas is now the seventh state to enact such a law.

The law affirms a simple but critical truth: God created two sexes, male and female, and society flourishes when we honor that design.
