Faith-based media is taking a bold step forward with the upcoming Netflix release of Ruth & Boaz, a contemporary retelling of the beloved biblical story. Produced by pastor and filmmaker DeVon Franklin in partnership with Tyler Perry, the film sets the timeless narrative in modern-day Tennessee and premieres globally on September 26.
Franklin emphasized that while many remember Ruth and Boaz as a romantic story, “it’s actually a story of faith, trust, and friendship…”
“Ruth made a commitment to Naomi not to go home alone. ‘Where you go, I go,’ and as part of her commitment and service, she was committed to a purpose higher than herself. What happened? God blessed her with a love,” Franklin said.
Directed by Alanna Brown and narrated by Phylicia Rashad, the film stars Serayah McNeill and Tyler Lepley. Franklin and Perry hope this project will be “the beginning of what will be a series of films that we believe will uplift and inspire the world.”
With Netflix’s global reach, Ruth & Boaz represents a major moment for Christian storytelling in mainstream entertainment.
