Evangelist Franklin Graham has encouraged actor and comedian Billy Crystal to place his trust in God after Crystal revealed that personal tragedies had shaken his faith.
During an October 11 interview on “CBS Sunday Morning,” Crystal, who is Jewish, explained that he no longer speaks to God following the destruction of his longtime home in the January 2025 Palisades wildfire and the December 2025 murder of his close friend, filmmaker Rob Reiner, and Reiner’s wife. Crystal expressed his struggles with trusting God amid personal suffering and troubling world events.
Responding on X, Graham, president and CEO of Samaritan’s Purse and the
Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, acknowledged that everyone experiences hardship, loss, and disappointment. He emphasized his Christian belief in salvation through Jesus Christ and encouraged Crystal and others to trust God despite difficult circumstances.
Crystal, whose latest Broadway show addresses his recent losses, also shared that laughter remains an important source of comfort as he continues processing grief.
