A Christian group was escorted from Burning Man in Nevada after festival officials said the group repeatedly violated the event’s privacy and consent policies.
The ministry, called Shift the Atmosphere, said it attended the annual gathering in the Black Rock Desert to serve attendees and share the Gospel. The group claimed its removal was religious discrimination and conflicted with Burning Man’s stated principle of “radical inclusion.”
Festival officials reportedly maintained that the dispute centered on privacy rules governing photography and video at the private, ticketed event. Witnesses also alleged that members of the Christian camp used aggressive evangelism tactics, including approaching adults and children after offering coffee and matcha.
Some attendees reportedly dismissed the encounters without concern, while others described them as unwelcome.
Shift the Atmosphere disputed the characterization of its activities and maintained that the camp was removed because members were openly sharing their Christian faith. Burning Man officials cited violations of event policies as the reason for the removal.
