Christian Group Warns of Torture in Iran Jails

Christian supporters of regime change in Iran have expressed deep concern over what they describe as alarming conditions for political prisoners and prisoners of conscience. In a letter addressed to international leaders, human rights organizations, and civil society institutions, Attieh Fard of Christian Activists for a Free Iran detailed reports of severe abuse within Iranian prisons, including lack of medical care and various forms of torture.

The letter states that detainees face “lack of adequate access to medical care, as well as torture and psychological and physical abuse (including flogging, burning of the body, breaking of bones, rape, removal of women’s wombs, placing religious and political prisoners in wards with dangerous and repeat offenders, forcing them to consume narcotics, systematic pharmaceutical torture, and other forms of physical and psychological torture).”

Some individuals, including protestors and minors, are reportedly imprisoned or sentenced to death due to their beliefs or peaceful activities. The group is urging global attention, calling for monitoring, improved conditions, and protection for prisoners. The letter warns that inaction may lead to further violations and loss of life.
