West Virginia lawmakers are advancing legislation that would expand support for women seeking alternatives after beginning a chemical abortion. The House Committee on Health and Human Resources has approved Senate Bill 805, which would allow state-funded pregnancy support programs to cover abortion pill reversal services. The bill amends the West Virginia Mothers and Babies Pregnancy Support Program, which funds pregnancy organizations statewide.
Under the legislation, funds could be used for “abortion pill reversal,” defined as “the use of progesterone by a licensed health care provider for the purposes of counteracting the effects of ingested mifepristone as part of a chemical abortion.” The measure previously passed the state Senate in a 31-1 vote on March 4.
The program distributed $3 million to pregnancy centers last year and is projected to allocate $4 million in fiscal year 2027.
