Israeli combat engineer Lt. Col. Levi Davis shared the harrowing experience of serving in Gaza following Hamas’s October 7th attack. Just two months after his wedding, Davis was deployed to neutralize Hamas’ deadly tunnel systems. For three months, Davis and his team faced intense physical and emotional strain, often narrowly escaping death due to delays that he attributed to divine intervention. “Thankfully, the Lord really protected us, and He delayed us from even getting there,” he said after one tunnel exploded just 20 meters away.
In one mission, a malfunction in his equipment delayed him moments before multiple coordinated explosions injured and killed teammates. “I was hit with a big block in my neck that actually paralyzed me for about like a minute,” he recalled. Davis said, “I know so clearly that He’s kept me up because He has more for me to do. To be light, to be salt where we are.”
He concluded, “But the Lord died for them too. Just praying for the Lord to show up in the camps of Hamas and the camps of Hezbollah, and to reveal himself to open their eyes by his mercy, to allow them to find him. And it sounds so like, why would I pray for my enemy? But it’s something that the Lord calls us to do. I believe It’s something that he will use us to heal our hearts.”
