‘It Was Just Crazy’: Hero Teen Jumps Into Action to Save Trapped Elderly Man, Dog After Jeep Falls Through Icy Pond

A scary situation in Iowa Saturday could have turned deadly if not for a brave teenager and four other good Samaritans who stepped in to save the day after a Jeep went through an icy pond.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office posted photos and a description of the Feb. 4 incident involving an 83-year-old driver and his dog.

According to authorities, five men — Joe Salmon, Corey McConnell, Kody Harrelson, Cody Chester, and Chris Parks — came together to brave the frigid temperatures and rescue the victim, Thomas Lee, and his pooch, Cooper.

Fortunately, everyone walked away unscathed.

“The driver was transported to [a hospital] and is doing well,” the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office wrote. “The dog was dried out and is doing well.”

Salmon, 17, was ice fishing and watching snowmobile races when the incident unfolded.
